✨If I have to wear a mask to impress you, I’m not interested.
It happened this weekend…
I ran into an old, close friend from high school and we started talking.
Picture me: making a blithe comment about a situation I know nothing about.
She laughs… “You never change, do you?”
I reply, “At least I’m funny. I tried being on my best behavior for a while. It didn’t work. All the fake people find out the real you anyway, then disown you. Might as well be yourself from the start.”
I hear the retort, “Never change, Charity. You’re honest. It’s a good thing.”
I know she’s right.
Unwieldy, gushing honesty is my main charm factor.
Apparently, it’s a rare thing to come by.
In a world where everyone wears a mask, it’s a privilege to see a soul. #InstaHappyRich
As far as “not changing” goes, I know that in many respects I’ve changed for the better…
I don’t like to think of it as “changing” as much as “maturing.”
I am still 100% Charity.
Sure, I’m not nearly as boisterous as I once was in my teenage years… probably because I was finally thriving in an environment that accepted me (which was a VAST change since elementary school where I was bullied by students and teachers alike for being “too distracting.”)
Finally, I could be MORE ME.
Oh, but that was short-lived.
Once I got out into the “real world,” I discovered that people are largely wearing masks every day, terrified to be who they really are, say what they really think and in fact, don’t even know what they feel because they’ve become numb.
I tried to get myself to be that way for a minute so I could fit in for once. I failed. Thank God.
October is about trees revealing colors they’ve hidden all year. People have an October as well. #InstaHappyRich
It’s easy to be your cheeky self when you don’t fear the consequences.
The biggest hurdle to actually arriving there is making the mindshift to realizing no matter WHAT you say, someone will find fault with you.
If you were abused or traumatized in any way, you might have a “people-pleaser” spirit about you.
I know how it goes: it’s a deathly feeling to realize someone doesn’t like you or to know you’ve rubbed someone the wrong way or you’ve made a fool of yourself with your words.
It takes A LOT to get to a place as an adult where you’re OKAY with being disliked.
You’re not okay with being a bully… or unkind… or thrashing people’s spirits with your words… but the truth is the truth, and if something is on your heart to share, YOU MUST SHARE or it’ll eat away at your insides until you do.
God uses everyone who allows it as a vessel for lovely words and goodness.
If you’ve been wearing a mask for far too long in your life and biz…
If you’ve been hoping that if you try to be the way SOMEONE ELSE WANTS, you’ll get a certain result…
If you’ve been acting the way you THINK you’re supposed to instead of trusting your gut…
It’s time to unveil the alluring YOU that’s waiting.
Remember the adage:
Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.
If you’ve decided to bring your true self to light, you’ve taken the first step to being an amazing face of inspiration and hope to so many.
To deepen the way you reveal your best characteristics to the world, I have 2 things for you:
