*2017 update: I created this video before I had a child, so this may be better suited out there for gals without kids but perhaps these nuggets can help moms, too! I do things differently now that I’m a SAHM and will probably make a follow-up post about that soon.
Let’s talk about habits.
Most people don’t realize that almost every action we take throughout the day is because we have a habit of doing that action.
Are you the kind of person who spends 30 minutes after getting up in the morning, rushing around and ends up late to work?
I bet you do it almost every day. That’s your habit.
Or are you the kind that wakes up 2 hours early to relax, drink coffee, read your devotional and arrive at work 15 minutes early?
That’s your habit.
Let me ask you– which habit is better? I think the answer is rather obvious.
The reason I bring this up to you is to stress the point that habits can be chosen.
The biggest habit you can form when it comes to working your business is CONSISTENCY.
There might be someone out there in your company who might seem like they’re not the brightest crayon in the box, yet their paycheck is 4 times the size of yours.
And I bet one of the biggest factors of their success is CONSISTENCY.
I want to share with you 4 tips for using consistency in your business to develop awesome habits, do more in less time and get better, more profitable results from your efforts.
1.) First, ask yourself if you actually love your business.
I challenge you to do this because if you are only going through the motions to eventually get a big paycheck, but you hate every minute of it, or don’t believe in your product, opportunity or service, you won’t be able to sustain your efforts.
So, if you’re not loving what you do, find another company or dig down deep and find a way to monetize your passion.
When you love what you do for work, you won’t dread the day and procrastinate.
2.) Forget about “staying busy.”
It’s a ridiculous concept. Stay with me here.
The reason most of us get into business is for what? FREEDOM: Freedom of time, freedom in finance, freedom to spend our days how we choose.
Yet, when I’ve spoken with multiple entrepreneurs, they say they fill their days with “busy work” such as labeling business cards and organizing their customer folders.
If you narrow down what is ACTUALLY going to make you money in your biz, you’ll most likely need to spend less than 10 hours per week on it.
3.) Focus on lead-generation (talking to new people!)
I just told you how you can actually cut down your time working by cutting out the non-important stuff.
BUT, I bet you’re wondering, “Well, if that’s not important stuff, then what am I supposed to be doing?”
To maximize your efforts, STOP procrastinating on the BIG, income-producing activities like lead-gen.
You know– that thing where you actually TALK to people about your products and services?
Oh, did we forget we have to communicate with people to make money?
Well, good news for the introverts out there–you don’t have to call 100 people per day or go door to door or throw business cards at every person in the mall.
You can literally stay home in your PJs (or even in the bathtub) and connect with people all over the world on your smartphone AND make money in your business. Umm, hello Instagram?!
4.) Make a tiny, all-encompassing list.
I work 4 days a week, 2-3 hours per day usually. I have 1 regular, recurring task I get done for each specific day. I could spend 40 hours per week working if I wanted to… have no LIFE. But, that’s not why I started this.
I’ll show you a sample of my work week:
-Monday: content mapping (create, curate and schedule content for Instagram, my Facebook groups & my Facebook page)
-Tuesday: lead generation (meeting new people on social media and inviting them to grab my free offerings which starts to build our relationship)
-Wednesday: blogging (pick a topic, bang it out, send it out to my email list)
-Thursday: I’m OFF
-Friday: Wildcard (pick a one-time task on my to-do list to complete)
That’s it, folks.
The rest of my time is spent simply chatting with people on social media.
I have systems and funnels in place to handle the rest for me.
